Antique Franz Joseph Keller Equinoctial 1760


Offered for sale is the very rare Antique Franz Joseph Keller of Bodingen, near Augsburg, Germany Gilt Brass Equinoctial Compass Sundial, in circular motif, circular colored rose, with Cardinal directions in Latin, 18 degrees West, cut-away hour ring (III - XII - VIII) in fifteen minutes, curved support, folding gnomon, for latitude 48 degrees, being 2 1/4" (57 mm) wide, made in Bodingen, Germany about 1760.

Genealogy of Franz Joseph Keller (1712-1785): He lived in Bodingen Germany making scientific instruments and sundials, having been born in Leimersheim, Germany to some famous instrument maker relatives. According to the Webster Signature Database, Keller was of German heritage, with a father-in-law named "Johann Andreas Keller" and a father named "Georg Phillip Keller", a Vogler relative. Perhaps they might be related to the Vogler and the Johann Andreas family, all famous sundial and instrument makers. #108
